1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

For the crumble topping:

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

For serving:

Vanilla ice cream (optional)

Whipped cream (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Skillet: Place a large cast-iron skillet over medium heat to warm up while you prepare the apples.

Prepare Apples: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss until the apples are well coated.

Cook Apples: Add 1 tablespoon of butter to the heated skillet. Once melted, add the apple mixture to the skillet, spreading it evenly. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the apples begin to soften and release their juices.

Make Crumble Topping: In a separate bowl, mix together the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Pour the melted butter over the mixture and stir until it’s crumbly and well combined.

Combine: Once the apples are softened, sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples in the skillet.

Bake: Transfer the skillet to a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.

Serve: Once done, remove the skillet from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
