Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey (preferably 93% lean)

1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

Zest of 1 lemon

3 tablespoons lemon juice (about 1 fresh lemon)

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for binding)

Olive oil (for grilling)

4 whole wheat burger buns

Fresh lettuce or spinach leaves

Tomato slices

Avocado slices (optional)

Your favorite sauces (e.g., tzatziki, mayonnaise, or mustard)

Instructions

Prepare the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, chopped parsley, minced garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, oregano, salt, and black pepper. If you prefer a firmer patty, add breadcrumbs to the mixture.

Mix Well: Using your hands (or a spatula), blend the mixture until all ingredients are well incorporated. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the burgers tough.

Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a burger patty, making a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing during cooking.

Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Lightly brush the grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking.

Cook the Burgers: Once the grill is hot, place the turkey patties on the grill. Cook for about 5-6 minutes on one side, then carefully flip and grill for another 5-6 minutes. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C) for safe consumption.

Toast the Buns: In the last couple of minutes of grilling, place the whole wheat burger buns cut side down on the grill to lightly toast them.

Assemble the Burgers: Once cooked, remove the turkey patties and buns from the grill. On each bun, layer fresh lettuce or spinach, the turkey patty, tomato slices, and avocado slices (if using). Add your choice of sauce to finish.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve the burger immediately with your favorite side, like a salad or sweet potato fries!
