Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1 lb (450g) ground pork

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1 large egg

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

For the Noodle Bake:

8 oz (225g) egg noodles

2 cups beef broth

1 cup heavy cream

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 cup frozen peas

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh dill (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Make the meatballs: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, onion, garlic, parsley, egg, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until fully combined. Shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

Brown the meatballs: In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat. Cook the meatballs in batches, turning them occasionally, until they are browned on all sides. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.

Cook the noodles: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the sauce: In the same skillet used for the meatballs, pour in the beef broth, heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and soy sauce. Stir well to combine, scraping up any bits stuck to the bottom of the skillet. Bring to a simmer and let it thicken slightly, about 5 minutes.

Combine: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked noodles, meatballs, and frozen peas. Pour the sauce over this mixture and stir until everything is evenly coated.

Assemble the bake: Transfer the noodle and meatball mixture into a greased 9x13-inch (3L) baking dish. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish: Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Sprinkle with fresh dill before serving.

Serve: Scoop out hearty portions of the casserole and enjoy the comforting flavors of this Swedish meatball noodle bake!
