Ingredients

14 oz (400g) firm tofu, pressed and drained

2 tablespoons cornstarch

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust for spice level)

1 tablespoon maple syrup (or agave nectar)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

½ teaspoon ground cumin

½ teaspoon ground black pepper

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)

Fresh cilantro or green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare the Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu block into bite-sized cubes or rectangles, about 1 inch thick. Pat the tofu pieces dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

Coat the Tofu: In a large bowl, combine the cornstarch, olive oil, soy sauce, sriracha, maple syrup, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cumin, black pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix until a smooth paste forms. Gently fold in the tofu cubes, ensuring they are well coated with the spicy mixture.

Bake the Tofu: Spread the coated tofu bits evenly on the prepared baking sheet, making sure they are not touching to allow for even crisping. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the tofu is golden brown and crispy.

Serve: Once baked, remove the tofu bites from the oven and let them cool slightly. Garnish with chopped cilantro or green onions, if desired. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce—sweet chili sauce or soy sauce pairs well!
