Savory Breakfast Sausage Crescent Rolls

1 package (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough

1 lb breakfast sausage (preferably country-style or homemade)

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

½ cup cream cheese, softened

2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried chives)

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

1 egg (for egg wash)

Cooking spray or parchment paper (for baking)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). If using, line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly spray it with cooking spray.

    Cook the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the breakfast sausage until it’s browned and fully cooked, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess grease, if necessary, and let cool for a few minutes.

      Mix the Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, softened cream cheese, chopped chives, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir until all ingredients are well incorporated.

        Prepare the Crescent Rolls: Unroll the crescent roll dough on a floured surface or directly on the prepared baking sheet. Separate the dough into triangles along the perforated lines.

          Fill the Rolls: Place about 1-2 tablespoons of the sausage mixture at the wide end of each crescent roll triangle. Roll tightly towards the pointed end, tucking in the corners to secure the filling inside.

            Apply Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush the egg wash over each crescent roll to give them a lovely golden color as they bake.

              Bake: Place the filled crescent rolls on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
