Sliders have become a beloved staple in American cuisine, but their origins can be traced back to the early 20th century. The term "slider" was initially used to describe the small, greasy burgers served at White Castle, the first fast-food hamburger chain, which opened in 1921. These bite-sized burgers quickly gained popularity and evolved into a broader category of mini sandwiches that can be filled with a variety of ingredients beyond just beef.

Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground chicken

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (Italian seasoned preferred)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 cup marinara sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

12 slider buns

2 tbsp olive oil (for brushing)

Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Chicken Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, minced garlic, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Form the Patties: Divide the chicken mixture into 12 equal portions and form them into small patties, slightly smaller than the slider buns.

Cook the Patties: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of olive oil. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 165°F / 75°C). Remove from heat.

Assemble the Sliders: In a baking dish, lay out the bottom halves of the slider buns. Place one cooked chicken patty on each bun. Spoon a tablespoon of marinara sauce over each patty, then top with a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese.

Add the Tops: Place the top halves of the slider buns over the cheese. Brush the tops lightly with olive oil to enhance browning.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the buns are golden.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. If desired, add fresh basil leaves on top. Serve warm, and enjoy your delicious Chicken Parmesan Sliders!
