3-4 tbsp milk

For the Buttercream Frosting:

2 tsp vanilla extract

2-4 tbsp milk

Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Oven and Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and white sugar together until smooth and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).

Add Egg and Vanilla: Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. If the dough seems too dry, add milk one tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached.

Scoop the Dough: Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake the Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges show a slight golden color. Cookies will appear soft but will firm up as they cool.

Cool the Cookies: Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Buttercream Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy (about 2 minutes). Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until it's well combined.

Add Vanilla and Milk: Add vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of milk. Beat on high for about 3 minutes until fluffy. If the frosting is too thick, add more milk; if too runny, add more powdered sugar.

Color Your Frosting: If desired, divide the frosting into separate bowls and mix in food coloring of your choice to create vibrant holiday hues.

Decorate the Cookies: Once the cookies are completely cool, spread a generous amount of buttercream frosting on each cookie. Top with festive sprinkles as desired.

Serve and Enjoy: Display your beautifully frosted holiday cookies on a platter and enjoy them with family and friends!
