8 oz spaghetti

1 tbsp olive oil

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 cup heavy cream

1 tsp sugar (to balance acidity)

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped (plus extra for garnish)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus extra for serving)

Red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions
 

Cook the Spaghetti:

    In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving 1/2 cup of the pasta water.

      Prepare the Sauce:

        In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

          Add the Tomatoes:

            Pour in the crushed tomatoes, and stir in the sugar, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Allow the sauce to simmer for 5-7 minutes, letting the flavors meld.
