Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef or ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried thyme)

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup marinara sauce (plus more for serving, optional)

Olive oil spray

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, parsley, minced garlic, egg, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well using your hands or a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatballs tough.

Shape the Meatballs: With wet hands, scoop out the meat mixture and form it into 1.5-inch balls. Place them evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.

Add Olive Oil: Lightly spray or drizzle the formed meatballs with olive oil to help them brown nicely while baking.

Bake the Meatballs: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and have a nice golden brown color. An internal temperature of 160°F (70°C) indicates they’re done.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Serve warm with additional marinara sauce drizzled over the top, or on a bed of spaghetti for a comforting meal. Garnish with extra parsley or fresh basil if desired.

Enjoy: Pair your cozy baked meatballs with a side salad or some crusty bread for a complete meal experience!
