Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled

1/2 cup buttermilk

2 large eggs

2 cups peeled and chopped apples (e.g., Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Optional: extra cinnamon for sprinkling

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and set it aside.

Combine dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined.

Mix wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, buttermilk, and eggs until fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine wet and dry: Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it's okay if there are a few lumps.

Prepare the apples: Toss the chopped apples with the brown sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon for added flavor. Fold the apple mixture into the batter until evenly distributed.

Fill the loaf pan: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Then layer half of the apple mixture over the batter. Pour the remaining batter on top, followed by the rest of the apples.

Create a swirl (optional): If you like, you can use a knife to gently swirl the apple mixture into the batter for a marbled effect.

Bake the bread: Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Keep an eye on it towards the end to prevent over-baking.

Cool it down: Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar with the milk until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled bread. Optionally, sprinkle extra cinnamon on top for an added touch.

Slice & serve: Once the glaze has set, slice the bread and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy your delightful Country Apple Fritter Bread!
