Ingredients

2 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and diced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

1 tablespoon sugar (for sprinkling)

Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream (for serving, optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare Apples: In a medium bowl, combine the diced apples, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and flour. Mix gently until the apples are well coated. Set aside.

Roll Out Pastry: Unroll the puff pastry sheet onto a lightly floured surface. If necessary, roll it out slightly to smooth it out and to ensure it's big enough for your desired size of squares.

Cut the Pastry: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the pastry into 9 equal squares (3x3 grid).

Fill the Squares: Place approximately 1-2 tablespoons of the apple mixture in the center of each square, being careful not to overfill.

Seal the Squares: Fold the corners of each pastry square towards the center to create a pouch. Pinch the edges to seal them securely. Place the sealed squares upside down on the prepared baking sheet.

Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the pastries with the beaten egg to give them a lovely golden color when baked. Sprinkle a little sugar on top for added sweetness and crunch.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden and puffed.

Cool and Serve: Allow the baked squares to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.
