Ingredients

1 pound ground beef or turkey

1 can (15 oz) chili beans (in mild chili sauce)

1 can (10 oz) diced tomatoes with green chilies

1 packet taco seasoning (1.25 oz)

8 small taco-sized corn or flour tortillas

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a cheese blend)

1 cup shredded lettuce

1 medium tomato, diced

½ cup sour cream (optional)

Sliced jalapeños (optional, for garnish)

Fresh cilantro (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Protein: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

Add Ingredients: To the skillet with the cooked meat, add the chili beans, diced tomatoes (with juices), and taco seasoning. Stir well to combine and bring to a simmer.

Simmer: Allow the mixture to simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes. This lets the flavors meld together. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Warm Tortillas: While the chili mixture is simmering, heat the tortillas in a separate skillet over low heat for about 30 seconds on each side, or until warm and pliable. Alternatively, you can wrap them in foil and warm them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes.

Assemble Tacos: Once the chili mix is ready, spoon a generous amount of the chili mixture onto the center of each tortilla. Sprinkle with shredded cheese, allowing some to melt from the heat of the chili.

Top It Off: Add shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and a dollop of sour cream on each taco. For extra flavor, add sliced jalapeños and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro for garnish.

Serve: Arrange the tacos on a platter and serve immediately with your favorite sides such as tortilla chips or Spanish rice!
