Ingredients

For the Apple Cinnamon Swirl Filling:

2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (about 2 cups)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 tablespoon butter

For the Loaf:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup buttermilk

For Topping (optional):

1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for sprinkling)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Prepare the Swirl Filling:

    - In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples, lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir to combine and sauté until the apples are tender (about 5-7 minutes). Set aside to cool.

      Prepare the Loaf Batter:

        - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

          - In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

            - In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy using a hand mixer or stand mixer.

              - Add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

                - Alternate adding the dry ingredients and the buttermilk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

                  Assemble the Swirl Loaf:

                    - Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it out evenly.

                      - Spoon half of the apple filling over the batter, then use a knife or spatula to gently swirl it into the batter.

                        - Pour the remaining batter on top, followed by the rest of the apple filling. Swirl again to create a marbled effect.

                          - For an extra touch, mix the coarse sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle on top of the batter.

                            Bake the Loaf:

                              - Bake in the preheated oven for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

                                - If the top is browning too quickly, cover the loaf loosely with aluminum foil for the last 15-20 minutes of baking.

                                  Cool and Serve:

                                    - Remove the loaf from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

                                      - Slice and serve as a delicious breakfast treat or a cozy afternoon snack!
